Dr. Sylvia is a Missouri licensed clinical psychologist and certified Health Service Provider. She works with children, adolescents and adults dealing with a range of adjustment difficulties and emotional struggles including anxiety, depression, grief, and coping with medical issues and other difficult life events. She also consults with parents regarding general parenting questions and parent-child relationship difficulties.
Dr. Sylvia provides individual and family therapy. While treatment structure is flexible and tailored to the needs and presenting concerns of each individual or family, she often utilizes a problem-solving approach employing cognitive behavioral and evidence based techniques.
Dr. Sylvia has a specialty in medical and health psychology including adjustment to personal or family medical illness and health behavior change. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Medical Crisis Counseling at Harvard Medical School and Children's Hospital of Boston and was Program Director of the Medical Crisis Coping Clinic at St. Louis Chidlren's Hospital from 2004 to 2010. She has over 20 years experience working with children and families coping with significant family medical issues and grief associated with the loss of a loved one.
