About Dr. Sylvia

Dr. Sylvia received her PhD in clinical psychology with a subspecialty in health psycholology from Washington University in 1997. She completed a pre-doctoral internship in medical psychology at Harvard Medical School and the West Roxbury/Brockton VA Hospitals. She also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Medical Crisis Counseling and pediatric psychology at Harvard Medical School, Children's Hospital of Boston and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.


For 12 years, from 1998-2010, Dr. Sylvia worked as a staff psychologist at St. Louis Children's Hospital and Instructor of Pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine. She was the primary psychologist for the pediatric oncology service for six years and the Program Director of the Medical Crisis Coping Clinic for an additional six years. She also served as a supervisor to doctoral students in clinical psychology at St. Louis University.


Dr. Sylvia has taught courses in Developmental Psychology and Health Psychology at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Washington University. She was an instructor in the Masters program in Applied Health Behavior Research at Washington University School of Medicine and a consultant to a pediatric asthma study led by Dr. Robert Strunk in the Division of Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine at WUSM.


Dr. Sylvia is married and has three children.
